Waltham Railroad Grade
Waltham Railroad Grade Crescent St. with Up/Down Wind Indicator Housed in Mainliner Case
In 1915, as the world changed with the onset of World War I and Alexander Graham Bell's first coast-to-coast telephone call, the Waltham Watch Company in Massachusetts continued to produce instruments of precision for America's railroads. Among their finest was the "Crescent St.", a model built to meet the strict safety standards that kept trains—and lives—on schedule. This example is a standout: a 21-jewel movement featuring the rare Up/Down Wind Indicator, allowing the wearer to see how much mainspring remains on each wind. The immaculate double-sunk enamel dial, blued steel hands, and bold Arabic numerals present beautifully, housed in a high-grade gold-filled Mainliner case with bright surfaces and sharp detail throughout. Finding a "Crescent Street" in this exceptional, near-mint condition is rare. Most were put straight into service and worked hard for decades. This piece, however, has been preserved with remarkable care—a true collector's find. Fully serviced, running strong, and ready to be appreciated for generations to come, it embodies the precision, reliability, and craftsmanship that defined Waltham's golden era.
