Waltham Railroad Grade
Rare Ball Waltham Official Railroad Standard Housed in Ball Model Stirrup Bow Case
In the world of vintage pocket watches a few watches stand above the rest and among those are the Ball series pocket watches produced by a number of manufacturers during the early 1900s. Ball pocket watches remain very popular and as such are highly coveted, highly sought-after timepieces. These watches carry with them the mystique of Webb C. Ball, the jeweler who developed the standards by which all railroad grade watches had to comply to be put into service in the American railroad system. This Ball – Waltham Grade Railroad Standard Model 1899 is an outstanding example of a railroad grade pocket watch graced with the name and designs of the legendary Webb C. Ball, the man behind the phrase, "on the Ball." The configuration of this watch is one of the most popular and features the Ball patented stirrup bow case in yellow gold fill—excellent condition. The Ball – Waltham movement is in excellent condition and has the historically and horologically interesting golden RR seal. The dial is flawless and features the Ball – Waltham motif, highlighted by gorgeous blue steel Spade/Whip hands. Also included on this watch is another interesting historical feature: the case back features the etched numbers of the railroad inspector who approved this watch after its manufacturing was complete, marking it as a genuine railroad standard approved timepiece. This is a great collectible timepiece with a significant historical and horological legacy. Whether you are a long-time collector, a beginning collector, or someone who appreciates fine-crafted vintage American timepieces for daily wear or display, this watch is a must-have.
