Hopefully the many pictures and extreme magnification help in the description of this truly fine Waltham Hunter Case Pocket Watch.
This American Waltham 17 Jewel Royal Movement has pristine antique damasked nickel silver plates without reckless jewelers or corrosion. The Waltham Watch Co. Royal was a very popular Waltham offering, a mainstay in the Waltham line up of fine pocket watches. The total number produced was 123,900 in total from 1877 through 1923 an impressive lifespan. This Hunter Case Royal 17 jewel movement is stem set and stem wound. Then we have raised gold jewel settings, a gold center wheel, gold balance wheel and weights with a high-grade micro regulator, all of added accuracy. This antique Waltham Royal Pocket Watch is in excellent condition at 97 years old; a beautiful and collectable timepiece sure to not disappoint.
The Philadelphia Case Company was know for the finest of pocket watch cases and this is an excellent example. This Waltham Hunters Case Pocket Watch is again in excellent condition with all 3 covers functioning just as they should. We have the front cover that opens with a push down on the winding crown. Both the back cover and dust cover function properly and close with a tight seal. This classic case is again in excellent condition and does not show it’s age at 97 years. These Hunter Cases are a very soft metal and after 100 years or so we are lucky to see these cases still functioning; the case springs that open and hold the case closed are made of steel and they can wear through the soft gold or gold fill over the years, and this one has survived in excellent condition. The engraving on the case is not crisp however this Waltham Pocket shows beautifully and a testament to the quality of this fine movement being used regularly for many years, very well maintained and still an accurate timekeeper. The dial on this Royal is the classic Waltham Dress Dial. The dial is referred to as a single sunk dial with a main chapter for the Waltham logo with USA written not common on the center with the Arabic numerals and the classic Railroad Track design around the outer circumference and then we have a recessed sunken chapter for the second hand. This fine dial is made of many layers baked silica giving the dial that deep, rich porcelain glass finish. The dial is in excellent condition and is highlighted by the original Blued Steel Brequet Moon Style Hands. This Waltham Hunter Case Pocket Watch shows beautifully.
This is another excellent example of the of the late 19th early 20th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a world wide standard for beauty and accuracy in timekeeping. All Antique Pocket Watches are Cleaned, Oiled and Adjusted for accuracy and Warranted for 1 Full Year from date of purchase.
