Rare Hamilton Pocket Watch Grade 993 in this Popular Hunting Case Configuration
Railroad Grade pocket watches were, by regulation, open faced; enabling a quick, efficient and perhaps life-saving time check. Thanks to their sterling reputation for satisfying the temporal needs of America's burgeoning railroad system, open faced pocket watches became all the rage. In 1919, when Hamilton manufactured this perfectly preserved timepiece, some gentlemen still preferred a fully encased pocket watch – for status projection and physical protection against scrapes, knocks and ever-present dust. Hamilton appealed to this relatively small audience by putting their famously accurate lever-set 992 Railroad Grade movement into a sealed (with quick access) "hunter case," named after the English fox hunters who championed its development. This perfectly preserved example is rare – one of just 8,700 ever made (many lost to the ravages of time). Equally, its case is beautifully finished – without a personal engraving/ or monogram – should its next gentleman owner wish to make his mark. All our treasured timepieces are completely disassembled, expertly cleaned and oiled using the finest quality watch oil and gear grease, and adjusted for accuracy. Full one year warranty.
