Housed in a custom stainless steel wristwatch conversion case with movable lugs and an exhibition crystal back, this early Patek Philippe & Co. Genève chronometer movement offers a rare opportunity to wear and enjoy a piece of late 19th century Patek Philippe craftsmanship on the wrist.

This watch began life as a high-grade Patek Philippe pocket watch movement, not as a factory-cased Patek Philippe wristwatch. That distinction is important. What makes this piece compelling is not an attempt to present it as something it is not, but rather the beauty of the original movement, dial, and retailer history, now preserved in a wearable wristwatch format.

The movement is an early 18 jewel Patek Philippe & Co. Genève chronometer-grade caliber, serial number 92905, dating to approximately 1892 according to the accompanying documentation. It features striped decoration, wolf-tooth winding wheels, a large gold screw compensation balance, blued hairspring, jeweled endstones, and the level of hand finishing expected from one of Switzerland’s most important watchmakers.

The dial is especially attractive and gives the watch much of its character. It is a white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, an outer track highlighted by red numerals, subsidiary seconds, and original hands. The dial carries a wonderful dual signature: Wright Kay & Co. Detroit prominently at the top, with Patek Philippe & Co. signed at the subsidiary seconds chapter. That Detroit retailer signature gives the watch an appealing American connection and places it firmly in the world of high-grade, special-order jeweler-signed timepieces.

The custom stainless steel case measures approximately 37mm excluding the crown and lugs, making it highly wearable by modern standards while still preserving the feel of an early pocket watch conversion. The crystal back allows the movement to remain fully visible, which is exactly how a watch of this kind should be enjoyed.

Today, the watch presents beautifully. The enamel dial is bright and attractive, the movement is clean and running properly, and the overall presence is refined, unusual, and unmistakably old-world. For the collector who appreciates early Patek Philippe watchmaking but wants something that can actually be worn, this is a fascinating and highly distinctive piece.

This watch has been inspected, cleaned, oiled, and adjusted for accuracy. It is accompanied by its prior certificate/documentation and is warranted for one full year from the date of purchase.
