This Hamilton Grade 992E Model 2 is one of only 63,900 ever produced making an already notable timepiece a rarity as well. This Grade 992E was an upgrade of the venerable Grade 992 design. The distinguishing feature that sets the the 992E apart from its predecessor is the Hamilton Watch Company's use of a revolutionary new alloy called Elinvar. As the railroad industry began phasing out steam locomotives in favor of the newer electric locomotives, the presence of strong electromagnetic fields produced by the generators on the new generation of locomotives created a serious safety concern when it came to timepieces. The Elinvar hairspring, developed by Hamilton and implemented in the 992E design proved crucial for maintaining a safe and reliable train service as the 20th century rolled along. This example of the Hamilton Grade 992E movement is presented here in a stunning configuration with a heavy bold inked Gothic dial, highlighted with heat treated blued steel hands and housed in an exquisite example of Hamilton's 10K gold fill Model 10 case, first seen in 1936. If you're looking for the perfect pocket watch to display or carry for daily wear, or are wanting to add a valuable piece of horological history to your collection, or you want to own a timepiece with a significant connection to a pivotal moment in world history, this Hamilton Grade 992E model 2 with Elinvar hairspring is the watch for you.
