Hamilton Railroad Grade 992B Housed in Model A Case with Rare Double Time Zone Hands
This Hamilton grade 992B Model 5 came off the production line sometime between 1941 and 1942. An interesting feature of this particular specimen is its double time zone hands with one made of blued steel and the other gold. This particular set is known as a two time zone hand set, with a two hour interval and thus providing a reading for time zones two hours apart. This feature was undoubtedly handy for managing railroad time tables more efficiently as the user could quickly read the time for every time zone in the U.S. with a +2 or -2 calculation for the interval time zone. The original concept of time zones in the U.S. was implemented in the 1880's and was made official in 1918. However, the number of watches crafted with the dual time zone hand configuration remained a rare feature. It is the rarity of this Hamilton Grade 992B's configuration that gives this timepiece additional horological value and significance. This pocket watch is in excellent condition and is an example of the quintessential railroad grade timepiece the Hamilton Watch Co. was famous for. The rare hand set and bold Gothic Arabic font on the dial coupled with the venerable 992B movement housed in a gorgeous Model A 10K gold fill case shows beautifully and makes a wonderful addition to your collection, to display, or for daily wear.
