Hamilton Railroad Grade 992 Housed in the Popular Salesman Display Case
This Hamilton Railroad Grade 992 housed in the highly popular "salesman display case is exceptional for daily use or as a display timepiece for your collection. The venerable Hamilton Grade 992 movement is housed in a rare "salesman display case." This type of watch case was not available for sale to the public and was used to show the movement in action to potential customers without exposing the inner workings of the watch to dirt and debris. Rather than a solid case back, as seen in most pocket watches, this case featured a see-through case back so that you can observe the movement in operation. This window to the watch's movement is a fantastic way to understand the pocket watch in motion. The case cover for the "salesman display case" is referred to as a snap-on bezel. To help you open the case, we have included a case opener with this timepiece. The 992 railroad grade movement features 21 jewels in gold settings and is finished with the early style of demasking, which was replaced in 1915 with a straight line pattern. The watch face features a pristine example of the highly popular Montgomery dial, with bold, heavily inked Arabic numerals and minute marks around the outer circumference of the dial. Beautiful blue steel hands highlight the dial. The Hamilton Grade 992 is a legendary timepiece, and coupled with the see-through "salesman display case," this specimen is a perfect watch for daily carry or display. The bonus feature of this watch is the display case that enables you to observe the mechanical movements of the watch, perfect for better understanding the way a pocket watch works, and as a conversation piece.
