Folks we have a wonderful offering for your consideration in this antique Hamilton Railroad Grade 940 Pocket Watch circa 1907. This is the first in the lineage of the Hamilton railroad grade pocket watches. This is the pocket watch that earned the Hamilton Watch Company the reputation as “Railroad Timekeeper of America”. This was truly the scientific instrument of the day in 1907. This pristine Hamilton 940 Movement has 21 jewels, motor barrel, double roller and is lever set all designed for extreme accuracy. The Grade 940 has beautiful ornate antique damasking on the nickel silver plates and is highlighted with gold lettering. The Hamilton Model 940 is a size 18 and measures 2 1/4 inches in diameter. This is a desired low 6-figure serial number on this early 940. I so hope the pictures and extreme magnification helps in the description of this truly fine Hamilton Railroad Pocket Watch.

The high-grade Hamilton 940 Movement has beautiful ornate antique damasking and highlighted with gold lettering, truly stunning. This was one of the pocket watches that earned Hamilton the reputation of being “Americas Railroad Timekeeper”. The total number of the grade 940, produced was only 210,596 from 1903 through 1917, a very long production run. This Hamilton 940 Movement is in pristine condition without reckless jeweler’s tool marks or corrosion. This is truly a classic Hamilton Pocket Watch The 940 Movements are referred to as a Full Plate Movement and is lever set and stem wound. The movement has 21 Ruby Jewels, adjusted to 5 positions and is also adjusted to heat and cold. This fine movement also has a high-grade micro regulator, gold balance weights and raised jewel settings with a gold center and steel escapement. This Hamilton 940 is one of the Hamilton Watch Companies finest offerings. This timepiece has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper as designed.

This 940 is faced with the classic Hamilton Double sunk Railroad Dial. This antique dial has the desired antique Hamilton logo in the handwritten font. This dial was the top of the line and for .50 cents you could upgrade from the single sunk dial to this double sunk dial. We have the raised outer circumference with the bold Hamilton Arabic numerals and every 5-minute marker highlighted in red. Then we have the recessed center chapter for the Hamilton Logo in the desired antique signed script, with a recessed sub chapter for the second hand. These ornate dials were made using 3 Copper Plates soldered together, and then baked with many layers of Silica giving the dial the deep rich porcelain finish. This dial is in very good condition with only minor crazing, still showing clean, bright and gorgeous! This beautiful dial is highlighted with the original blued Steel Railroad Spade/Spade Hands. This timepiece shows beautifully and is sure to be appreciated for generations to come.

This Antique Pocket Watch has been cleaned, oiled and adjusted for accuracy. This entails a complete disassembly with all parts cleaned and reassembled using the finest watch oil and gear grease.
