Description
Folks we have another fine offering for your consideration this Illinois Pocket Watch Railroad Grade 89 with a beautiful two-tone movement circa 1915. This antique Illinois Pocket Watch is lever set and a size 18 measuring 2 ¼ inches in diameter, a hefty pocket watch. This extra fine Illinois Grade 89 Movement has a rare and collectable two tone Checker Board Movement, the gold flashing is beautiful. Also on this fine movement every screw is gold filled, making for a stunning high grade movement. This all-original Illinois Pocket Watch has one of most desired configurations with the fine Illinois Railroad Dial, Two-Tone Movement, Star Case Company Case and Blued Steel Spade/Whip Hands. I so hope the many pictures and extreme magnification helps in the description this fine antique Illinois Railroad Grade Pocket Watch.
The classic Illinois Railroad Dial is referred to a double sunk with the recessed center portion for the Illinois logo in the block font. Then we have the raised outer circumference for the classic Illinois Arabic font numerals with every 5-mintue marker highlighted in red. Then we have a recessed sub-chapter for the second hand. This fine dial is actually made using 3 pieces of metal soldered together then many layers of silica are baked on giving the dial the deep glass porcelain finish. This fine dial is in very good condition but does show some minor crazing, very fine hairlines, magnification is needed to see. Again a stunning dial highlighted with the original Blued Steel Hands also in excellent condition.
This high grade 89 Illinois Movement has the rare two-tone movement with 17 fine Ruby jewels; a pristine lever set and stem wound railroad movement. Again we the antique two-tone damasked movement with gold plated screws, a rare find in excellent condition without reckless jewels tool marks or corrosion. The movement is also highlighted with the gold lettering, just beautifully crafted. Then we have 17 extra fine Ruby Jewels and is adjusted to 3 positions and heat and cold. Then we have a double roller, high-grade Micro Regulator, gold balance weights, flush gold jewel settings, gold center wheel and train with a steel escapement all designed for extreme accuracy. This Illinois Pocket Watch has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper to this day and for generations to come.
This fine movement is housed in this Star Watch Case Company Case. This size 18 lever set case in in excellent condition and was used on the rails and the inside back cover does have the “Railroad Inspectors” markings, I tried to capture this in the pictures. The outer case is worn and the engraving is no longer crisp, however the case is still in excellent condition and again I tried to capture this in the pictures. Again this fine case is in excellent condition with no major dings, dents or scratches one would expect to find. This fine Illinois Pocket Watch is again just a wonderful configuration a wonderful addition to any collection or ready for daily wear.
This is another excellent example of the late 19th early 20th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a worldwide standard for accuracy and beauty in timekeeping.
