This classic Elgin is a size 18 and measures 2 ¼ inches in diameter, a substantial pocket watch. This Gentlemen's Dress Pocket Watch of the day was a symbol of prestige and status and manufactured to the highest of standards, we have an excellent example with this fine configuration. The pristine Elgin 11 Jewel Movement, 14K Gold Fill Hunter Case, classic Roman Numeral Dial highlighted with the original Blued Steel Hands, all in excellent condition. The standard for the Railroad Grade Pocket Watch was not established until after 1895 and this would have been common for use on the rails or as the Gentlemen's Dress Pocket Watch of the day. In 1891 this was truly the scientific instrument of the day on par with the Smart Phones of current.
