Hamilton Railroad Grade
Hamilton Railroad 992E with Elinvar Hairspring Housed in Rose Gold Fill Model #2 Case
Rail workers everywhere encountered new dangers as the world approached the threshold of the atomic age. By 1940, the introduction of electric power to the rail industry coupled with the increased prevalence of phones, radio sets, and other electronic devices meant the magnetism produced by these devices was a concern for those who relied on their watches for their safety. To meet this new threat, Hamilton introduced a new alloy impervious to the potentially dangerous abundance of magnetism in the railroad setting. This Hamilton Grade 992E Elinvar Model 2, produced in 1940, a crowning achievement for Hamilton, boasted protection from magnetic interference with its Elinvar hairspring. This watch is factory-cased and timed. It features an exquisite rose gold fill Hamilton Model #2 bar over crown case. Its blind man's dial with bold font and Montgomery dial minute marks in a deep heavy ink saturation gives this watch a rich appearance. It is in excellent condition. The dial, hands, and case are flawless. The Hamilton Grade 992E is popular among collectors due to its innovative design and historical value as a testament to the evolution of the rail industry as it transitioned from the steam age to the electric age. All our treasured timepieces are completely disassembled, expertly cleaned, and oiled using the finest quality watch oil and gear grease and adjusted for accuracy and comes with a full one-year warranty.
