The Hamilton 992 was one of the most popular railroad pocket watches manufactured, if not the most popular. This is a second year production run, first year production was only 700 pieces. This pristine Hamilton 992 Movement has 21 jewels, motor barrel, double roller and is lever set all designed for extreme accuracy. This Grade 992 has the beautiful ornate antique damasking on the nickel silver plates and is highlighted with gold lettering. After 1917 they went to a plan pinstripe damasking pattern, making these older handcrafted movements more desirable. The Hamilton Model 992 is a size 16 and measures 2 inches in diameter, the most popular size pocket watch. This 992 has an early and desired low 6-figure serial number, they had not yet started engraving the grade 992 on the movements, only the jewel count. This was truly the scientific instrument of the day in 1904, on par with the smartphone of today.
This is another excellent example of the late 19th early 20th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a worldwide standard for beauty and accuracy in timekeeping.

This Hamilton 992 Movement is in pristine condition without reckless jeweler’s tool marks or corrosion. This is truly the classic Hamilton Railroad Pocket Watch and one of the pocket watches that earned Hamilton the reputation of being “Americas Railroad Timekeeper”. The 992 Movements are referred to as a 3⁄4 Plate Movement and is lever set and stem wound. The movement has 21 Ruby and Sapphire Jewels, adjusted to 5 positions and is adjusted to heat and cold. This fine movement also has a high-grade micro regulator, Breguet Hairspring, gold balance weights and raised jewel settings with a gold center and steel escapement, all designed for extreme accuracy This Hamilton 992 is one of the Hamilton Watch Companies finest offerings. This fine timepiece has just been serviced and is an excellent timekeeper as designed.
This 992 is faced with the classic Hamilton double sunk railroad dial. This antique dial has the rare and desired antique Hamilton logo with “Hamilton Watch Co.” spelled out in handwritten font. This logo was later shortened to just Hamilton and later changed to a plain box font. We have the raised outer circumference with the bold Hamilton Arabic numerals and every 5-minute marker highlighted in red. Then we have the recessed center chapter for the desired Hamilton Logo in the antique signed script. These ornate dials were made using 3 Copper Plates soldered together, and then baked with many layers of Silica giving the dial the deep rich porcelain finish. This dial is in excellent condition without flaws, showing clean, bright and gorgeous! This beautiful dial is highlighted with the original custom blued Steel Breguet Hands. This pristine timepiece shows beautifully and is sure to be appreciated for generations to come.
