Folks for your consideration we have this antique Waltham Pocket Watch. This high-grade 19 jewel Riverside circa 1909 is pendant set and stem wound. This extra fine Riverside is more commonly found with in a lever set railroad configuration. So in this case this pendant set Riverside would be considered the high-grade Gentleman’s Pocket Watch of the Day. The Riverside was a mainstay in the American Waltham Watch Company line up of the finest pocket watches of the day. This Waltham Riverside was manufactured from 1891 – 1932, with a total production of 166,639 in 375 production runs. I so hope the many pictures and extreme magnification helps tell the story of this extra fine Waltham Riverside Pocket Watch.

This antique Waltham is faced with a pristine Waltham Railroad Dial. The fine dial is referred to as a single sunk dial; we have the Waltham logo in the center with Arabic numerals around the outer circumference, then every 5-mintue marker highlighted in red. Then we have recessed sub chapter for the second hand. The dial is made using many layers of baked silica on two metal plates. This gives the dial depth and that rich glass appearance. This fine dial and silver case is highlighted with the original Blued Steel Railroad Hands Spade / Spade railroad hands. This fine Waltham Pocket Watches shows just beautifully. This Waltham Riverside circa 1909 is in excellent overall condition.

This high-grade movement Model 1899 has a 19-jewel movement and is just pristine condition, with beautifully damasked nickel plates. This Riverside is adjusted to 5 positions with a high-grade micro regulator, gold balance weights, raised gold jewel settings, gold center wheel and train, pendant set and stem wound with a steel escapement. Again lever set railroad grade is common; this pendant set configuration is rare and easier to set. This fine Riverside is housed in a beautiful Philadelphia Case Company Silverod Case, a strong base metal with a high nickel content, the case does not have any major dings, dents or scratches but does have very minor rippling on the back, nothing major but I have to mention. This Waltham Riverside Pocket Watch is an excellent timekeeper ready for daily wear or a wonderful addition to any collection.

This is another excellent example of the late 18th early 19th Century ingenuity that made the American Pocket Watch a worldwide standard for accuracy and beauty in timekeeping.
